ジェームス・ブレーク（全米クレーコート選手権08）
ブレークがマルセル・グラノジェルス=プホル（スペイン）に4-6、6-1、5-7で優勝を逃しました。
言い訳：
●「第三セットを3-0でリードしていたときにもう少し良いサーブが出来たのにと思いますしそれほど攻めていませんでした。」： "Being up 3-love [in the third set], I definitely could have served a little better and I wasn't attacking as much."
●「彼のように守りが固くて動きの良い選手とプレーするのは難しいものです。」："It's tough to do against a guy who plays such good defence and moves as well as he does."
●「（彼のような選手に対しては）いろいろ試そうとしてもそうはさせてくれない難しさがありました。」："It really made it tough for me to execute what I was trying to do."
●「いいプレーしているし、どちら側でもミスしないですね。」："He gets the job done. He doesn't miss a lot off either wing."
●「十分にアタックしていなかったし、前への動きも足りなかった。」："I wasn't attacking enough and moving forward."
●「ウイニング・ショットをやろうとしすぎました。ベースラインからウイニング・ショットを打とうとしてミスが出てしまいましたから。」："I was trying to go for too much. (The errors) are going to happen when I'm trying to hit winners from the baseline."
●「もっと狙って打ちに行ってネットを取るべきでした。」： "I should have been hitting to a spot and getting in (to the net)."
●「彼の守りのプレーが良かったです。あらゆるポイントでもう一本打たされることになってしまいましたから。」： "He played good defense. He made me hit the extra ball every single time."
▼試合後のセレモニーでのスピーチは例によって上手です▼「優勝おめでとう。”若手プレーヤーの日”を作ってしまったのはこれで今年２回目です。この試合の結末を受け入れるのは辛いものですが、僕も若かったときにアガシに勝って、スリチャパンを破って初タイトルを取ったことがありましたから今のうれしい気持ちがよくわかります。ほんとうに興奮しますよね。無限の可能性があるように、彼もきっとそんな風に感じているのだろうと思います。彼にとって本当によかったと思いますが、当然のことながら僕としてはそうはさせませんし、これからも勝つテニスを続けようと思います。今週彼は良いプレーをし、激しく戦って、競り勝った、しかも素晴らしいスポーツマンシップを発揮していたと思います。」："I’m really happy for him. It’s now the second time this year that I’ve made the younger player’s day, It’s tough being on the receiving end of it. I know how that feels when I was young and I got to beat Agassi and win my first title against Srichaphan. It’s an exciting feeling, really it is. It definitely feels like the sky is the limit at that point, and I’m sure he’s feeling that excited right now, and I’m happy for him, but obviously I would like to thwart that and continued my successful play. He played well, fought hard, competed very well all week, and seemed to do it with good sportsmanship."▼ATPでスピーチ・コンテストしたら優勝まちがいなし。
