ペトロワ（ポルシェ・グランプリ０８）
１０月５日。シュトゥットガルト。ペトロワがヤンコビッチに４６、３６で準優勝。
言い訳：
● 「このトロフィーをほんとうに取りたかったですね、あまりにも欲しいと思ったりすると時々はうまくいかないことがテニスではありますからね。」："I really wanted to win this trophy, and when you want too much, sometimes it doesn't work in tennis.''
●「ベストをつくしましたから。」："I gave it my best.''
●「すべてのポイントで決めにかかってしまったり、すべて試したりしたわけで、アンフォースド・エラーが多すぎましたし、エレナと対戦するためのポイントはプレーを安定させることですね。」：“I went for every single point and tried everything I just made too many unforced errors and the key to playing Jelena is to be consistent.”
●「朝起きてみて今日はついてないかもとわかるようなそういう日も年にいくらかはあるわけですからね。」："There are some days you wake up and you know it's not going to be your day."

１０月５日。東京。デル＝ポトロがベルディフに１－６、４－６で準優勝。
言い訳：
● 「自分にとってはとてもきつい試合でした。」："It was very tough for me."
●「今日の彼は信じられないようなプレーをしてましたから、自分が何かをするようなチャンスはありませんでしたね。」："He played unbelievably today, I didn't have chance to do anything."
●「試合中は気分が良くなかったことがありますが、それよりもどれだけ彼が良いプレーをしたのかのほうが大きいと思いますね。」："I didn't feel well during the match but I think it was more to do with how well he played."
●「まずはとにかく良い大会でした、まあ今日は負けてしまったので悲しいですけどこの一週間のことを思えば満足しなければいけないですね。」："I had a great tournament anyway, so I'm sad because I lost today but I have to be happy for the week."
●「薬も飲んでみてプレーも少し良くなり始めましたけどちょっと時すでに遅しでしたね。チャンスは何も無かったですし。彼のプレーが凄かったですから。彼の日といったところでしょう。」"I took some medicine and I started playing a little bit better but it was too late. I didn't have any chance. He played great. It was his day."

● 「第一セットでは彼のほうが良くて。自分のサーブがあまりにもひどかったですから。最初のゲームでブレークされてしまって、自信につながりませんでしたね。」："In the first set he was better than me. I served too bad. He broke me in the first game so it was not good for my confidence."
●「でも、第二セットでは確かに自分のほうが良かったですから、そして第三セットになるわけですけど、１１のゲームでブレークポイントが一回、それと５５のときにもブレークポイントがあったんですけどね。ちょっと疲れていたし、５５で落とした後でイライラもしてましたから。」："But I was better than him in the second set, for sure, and in the third, I had one break point at 1-1 and break points at 5-5. I was a little bit (tired) and frustrated after losing at 5-5."
●「第三セットでの彼のサーブがとてもよかったですね。フェレールに勝ったあとで自信たっぷりでしょうし。」："He served really well in the third set. He is confident after beating Ferrer."

●「今日の負けは驚きというわけではないですね。この２ヶ月間彼はいいプレーをしていましたからね。たくさんの試合に勝ってるし今日は彼のプレーがとても良かったかな。」："It was not a surprise. He's playing very well these two months. He's been winning a lot of matches, and today he played very good."
●「自分にとってはたぶんこの一ヶ月間で最高の試合でしたよ。」："For me, maybe it was the best match in one month and it's important for me.
●「彼は大事なポイントでのサーブがほんとうに良くて。第二セットでは彼のサーブをブレークするチャンスは結構あったんですけれど、彼のサーブがほんとによくってね。」：" He served really well on important points. I had a lot of chances to break him in the second set, but he served really well."

●"I respect him too much, because I know him since I was 13. I thought he was a player in a different world. I didn't feel confident at all to beat him."
●"I tried to measure his game in the beginning, but he attacked very quickly hitting a rising ball and I couldn't cope with them."
●"I felt like I did last year today. I couldn't push myself up, I couldn't move well, and I made too many easy errors, because I was overwhelmed by his play."
●"First of all, I have to improve my serve. I served well in the first and second round, but it still has some ups and downs. Today, I couldn't serve well."
▼"Don't respect too much."とは自分も友人から注意されたことがあるので実感▼ジャパン・オープン公式サイトはまだまだ改良の余地ありですね。制作＆運営予算の問題なのでしょうが、先の中国、韓国、タイの大会公式サイトと同じくらいの品質でお願いしたいもの。
